He was the founder and inspiration for the Southwest Canoe Rendezvous which occurred from 1989 to 2001. Bob was instrumental in bringing Freestyle clinics to the event and showcasing the FS National Competition under the lights at night. His impact promoting FS Canoe was significant.
Bob Arthur held many offices including Commodore of one of the largest paddle clubs in the U.S., the Houston Canoe Club. He served on the ACA Board of Directors and Texas Rivers Conservation Board. Bob currently headed the Paddle Trails Committee as a member of the Board of the Bayou Preservation Association. These are among numerous contributions Bob made to paddling in America.
Bob Arthur’s contribution to the sport of FS Canoe and paddling in general cannot be overstated. He will be missed by those who benefitted from his tireless energy.
